Chihiro KABATA

Chihiro Kabata is a Japanese visual artist known for her intricate drawings and sculptures, in which delicate ink lines accumulate into powerful, evocative forms. Her primary medium — ballpoint pen on paper — is deceptively modest, making the resulting works all the more striking. Her art merges the visual idioms of traditional Japan with the metaphysical concerns of contemporary practice.

Originally from Tokyo, Kabata received her MFA from Musashino Art University and is currently an Associate Professor at Wako University.

She has presented her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Japan and internationally. Her work has been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, The Ueno Royal Museum, Fuchu Art Museum, Echigo-Tsumari Art Field, Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore (ICAS), gallery αM (Musashino Art University), Zibo Museum, Pyeongtaek Museum, Nam-Seoul University Gallery, Art Front Gallery (Tokyo), Kashya Hildebrand (Switzerland), INSTINC (Singapore), and others.

Her work was also recognized at the College Art Association’s 101st Annual Conference in New York (CAA).
